Project:
Promenade
Bellerive Phase III - City of Montreal
Park re-design including riverbank stabilization.
Construction: 1992-1993
Project managers:
Michel Fontaine, CSLA, Medialand
Pascale Léger, CSLA, City of Montreal
Consultant: Robbin B. Sotir - Bioenvironmental engineering specialist
Description:
The Bellerive Promenade is a large linear park of 2,2 km, skirting
the St-Lawrence River.
The project lies within the designation of 'Montreal Bleu', an
organization created to improve Montreal's waterside. Medialand's
intervention related to the third phase of development and aimed
mainly at solving important erosion problems. Ground composed
of fill and steep river banks required significant stabilization
work. Therefore various techniques of eco-engineering were adapted,
using erosion control blankets and seeding, to more complex methods
of soil reinforcement including woody plant material. Also proposed
were paths and spaces to give structure to the park, exploiting
views and supporting activities such as walking, fishing and site
interpretation.
