Project:
Terracotta
Eco-Park
Location: Ville
de Pointe Claire, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Description: In
1990 the municipality of Pointe-Claire decided to transform
an old clay pit into a public park. The part of the site that
had not been touched by the extraction included a mature maple
grove and a stream with serious erosion problems. During phase
1 of the project, carried out in 1990 to 1993, Medialand made
a drainage study identifying locations in need of work and corrective
methods, also designing recreational areas and planting that
preserved the integrity and ecologic vocation of the site. A
thorough study of the problems caused by erosion was produced
thereafter.
In
2000-01 Phase 2 was undertaken, with major stabilization work
of the stream carried out by the Érostable company. The
work, using eco-engineering and gabions, made it possible to
maintain the surrounding vegetation, to slow down the current
velocity and retain a quantity of the water on site.
