Project:
The Heritage
of Paton Island, phase 1
Location: Paton
Island, Rivière des Prairies, Laval, Qc
Construction : 1991-92
Project leader: Michel Fontaine, AAPQ
Person in charge: Mr Vianney Bélanger
Description:
The
landscape planning and design and the site survey of this condominium
complex was done by Medialand. Due to the site's riverside location
and the known high-water mark, the construction of garages, basements
and the large garden's position on a rock surface, a particular
approach to link all of the elements was required. A drainage
system was installed that integrated the garden using the form
of a stream, and the construction of planting troughs and low
walls made it possible to raise the ground level enough for planting
on the rocky surface.
Along
the riverbank, the public path was remade and decorative lighting
incorporated. Culverts and stabilization techniques using rip-rap,
geotextiles and planting were used to secure the riverbank. The
harmonization of the landscape was achieved with a design in the
English landscape tradition, consistent with the locations history
and the English garden of the former Manor of Mr. Paton.
